So my balance has improved a ton-Yay! But, I seem to have been taught incorrectly for about 5 years. I was always taught to push as HARD as i can down into the stirrups, which caused tons of stiffness and no range of motion. I'm starting to get out of this, but It's hard for me to "work with" the stirrups. I ride 10 times better without them, but I need to use them. Any advice on how to get more comfortable with them without having to push so much of my weight on my feet, causing that discomfort?
Also, my trainer says my legs are full of knots and just stiff. Are there any exercises that can help with flexibility, Especially for ankles and around that area?? It'd be Very much appreciated! :wink:

Ride a few minutes w/o stirrups, then pick up your stirrups by lifting up your toes. While riding, think of lifting your toes UP. Wiggle them, lift them up, to the point where you almost drop your stirrup. play at kind of "peddling" on your stirrups as you would a bicycle, with each stride of the horse. periodically do the above to check in with your stirrups and be sure you haven't zoned out inot board stiff ankles. At times, bounce off the balls of your feet during posting, exxagerate riding off your feet, then just relax and think of your stirrup carrying no more than the weight of that leg.
