1st time lunging problem
ive been around horses since i was 6 (now 23) ive just got my 1st horse recently a 2yr bay mare tb before i got her she was just in a field doing nothing i had to start from scrach grooming etc ive been doin alot of ground work with her recently and shes brill when i put her bridle and light weight saddle on (not yet broken) etc etc but the only trouble is when i go to lunge her she has no idea as shes never done it before she just turns in towards me ive tried walking her in a circle by her side shes fine and does it well but as soon as i step back from her into the lungin position she stops and turns in ive tried encouraging her out by using the whip but she goes out has a kick then turns back in to face me, ive lunged many horses before but never a youngster that has never been lunged before ive tried gettin someone else to lead her in a circle whilst im in the lungin position again fine but as they step away same problem she turns in to face me. what should i do?
Just a suggestion: take a look at the training thread. So many threads on the exact same issue. If you can't find it, I may be able to help.

Not sure how well that link will work im not good at that sort of thing but i had a similar problem and i got some good advice.
Also my knew boy doesn't lunge and has bad personal space problems so I'm in the process of teaching him and I've found that I had to be pretty persistent about him keeping his shoulder away from me if that makes sense. Hope the link helps.
My horse can be an idiot on the lunge line. Your's doesn't know how, but mine does. I'll put him on the line at a show, and ill just hook it to his halter instead of putting the chain on just because he doesn't normally like the chain. Normally he is perfectly fine and just does his thing. Well, the other day the lunge arena was wet, so I put him on the line out in one of the arenas. I hooked it to his halter like normal, and picked up the whip. He reared up, looked at me, and then stood there. I tried again, and got the same result. So, I walked over to him, put the chain on, and tried again, and it finally worked. I guess it goes to show that I can't always be so nice to him all the time.
Sorry, that really has nothing to do with your problem, but I just felt like sharing my little anecdote (:
Good luck with the mare, there are a lot of threads on here on lunging which I'm sure will help you!
