Donkey playing with a dead bird...

so i came home to find my donkey playing with a dead bird she had the thing in her mouth and throwing it all over the place, it was falling to pieces and really gross - is this normal? or should i be worried?

Well i have never heard to that! Horses generally leave anything dead alone but not sure about donkeys.
I wouldn't be worried, unless you think the bird looked sick. Must just be a really curious donkey!

i have no idea, she was running all over the place with the thing in her mouth. it was so disgusting. im thinking my cat killed it and she just found it and decided to play with it - i just never heard of a donkey or even a horse playing or messing with anything dead. didn't know if i would worry :\

i'm pretty sure if my mini donkey came across a dead bird in the pasture he would do the same thing. he plays with EVERYTHING!

Ha thats funny! I would have got pics... but I'm weird. The only thing I'd worry about is desise. If he is all up to date on his vacs I wouldn't worry about it to much.

I have a mare that kills brids all the time. It's like she doesn't like to share anything, they always look sat on or stepped on to me.

she's all UTD, i was just extremely freaked out and didn't even think to take picture i was so freaked :O

BTW, it was a huge bird...like robin size maybe a little bit bigger...

What mare? Totties? Mc? Who?

My donkeys NEVER have done that but then again they are curious little things...today I had a pick nick basket out and I had apples for the donkeys and they'd rather look at the pick nick basket than eating apples! Weird, huh?

Toccata, Nokas mommy.

I am so sorry, but I couldn't keep from chuckling at your donkey's playing with the deceased bird. As long as your donkey has UTD vaccinations I'd not worry to much. Donkeys, for the most part have the constitution of amoured bank vault. More than likely your girl didn't ingest any of the dead bird. We love donkeys here. Just gotta share this: several years back we bought two jennets both in foal by a spotted jack. Both jennets foaled within a week of each other. Watching those babies frolick and play was hilarious to watch. Everyday when I got home from work I'd go out and check on how the girls and their babies were doing. One particular afternoon as I rounded the corner of the barn one of the babies was outside the round corral/pen on the far side of the pen. He saw me and came running/galloping around to me as if, saying "I'm saved, rescued". I opened the pen gate and he flew on those baby legs into the pen to his momma. I checked him all over for wounds, not a bit of broken skin anywhere on him. He had to have slipped through the panel pen some how. Neighbors next door bought him and he to this day comes to visit us. He slips right through their barbed wire pasture fence with not even a scratch. Did I say I love Donkeys!!!
