Confo Critique my mare
Just out of interest.....she's 7 years old, 14hh, just started back in regular work after some time off, currently working on getting fit and hope to do some distance rides with her this summer. So please tell me all her faults and in what way they may effect her performance :D
Overall she is a nice looking horse the biggest faults I see are bench knees the right one is worse then the left and she is really straight through the hock stifle area.
She is cute. I think that she will have trouble being competitive in distance riding because of her draftiness. She has more bone and muscle to carry and will wear out faster no matter how fit she is. That being said if you are just going to ride and have fun She should do fine. She would definitely get you through the bogs with those big feet!
I see the same with the knees' the front right one being really offset to the outside (bench knees). Her backlegs are pretty post, too, but I htink Draft breeds tend to be that way. She has a nice short back, great neck and shoulders and a sweet face. If she has the personality and the heart, she could do anything, though with her knees, I would not do a ton of jumping.
Thanks guys for your input, would you believe i'd never really noticed her knees untill you said it and i looked back at the pic, like you say the right especially, it's blindingly obvious :?
We will only be "pleasure riding" at the rides, not competing and will only be doing 20 miles (thats my limit even if not hers :D)
We don't do any jumping, i'm utterly rubbish at that and prefer to keep feet on the floor
So it's only really hacking and then the pleasure rides (20 mile max) that we plan to do!!
Some recent pics of my lovely girly, now she's fit and in regular work!!!
She is an absolutely gorgeous mare!!! I love the recent pictures, she looks so solid and such a nice compact size too!
Thankyou :D i think she's very beautiful too :-) The ride pics was her first 42k whilch she breezed through!!
I love her dapples! She's just beautiful.
How on earth do you keep her mane and tail so white? We had a flaxen horse at the barn I used to work at, and it was a nightmare to keep her tail white. We eventually gave up because no amount of tail washing and wraps could keep it shiny white.
Thankyou!! She's actually a very clean pony, which really helps, she finds a clean area to roll unlike all the others who like to roll in the mud...she's a "posh" pony  I do condition her mane every 3/4 days and put it in plaits, i take the plaits out put conditioner through it and then plait back up again, really helps to keep it clean and as its so "glossy" the dirt just doesn't stick, also stops wind tangles and hair being pulled out, it's grown and thickened loads since being kept plaited!!
