Does your horselike to stay in the rain rather than being stalled during storms
My new 7 year old gelding had rather be outside than be stalled even during rain and night. We had a storm blowing in so i went out took him in his stall and did not want to be there so i let him out in the pasture but he still has acess to the barn if he wants.
That's pretty normal horse behavior.
My 3 would willingly stay outside in the worst weather if I let them, especially the grey Arabian gelding.
Soda and Lily both prefer to be in their lean-to when it rains. My old Walkers were a little different. Flame and Red would both stand in the lean-to, but Sin prefered to stand in the rain/snow.
I think most horses prefer some sort of shelter, but they'd rather be able to choose it themselves. I've watched all of mine stand outside in the rain/snow for awhile (even though there was hay in the shelter) then come inside, shake off, relax for awhile.
Cody is new to our farm and acts real nervous in the stall so I decided to let him stay calm and have free range in and out of the barn.
High Five is one that when it rains he's outside running, rolling, and just generally playing around in it. I guess he loves the feel of it, plus it keeps flies off of him.
Molly Jo, however, is a little prissy and can't even be bribed out of the stall when it's sprinkling. lol.
Both of them are given the option though.
All of my horses stay out in storms, by choice, except Artie. He will NOT go outside, so he stays in when it rains.
Nope, all the horses where I board are lined up begging to go inside if they so much as *think* a drop of moisture might land on them.
The as soon as the rain stops, they're all rolling in the biggest puddles they can find.... :?
Mine stands in his shelter patiently awaiting the time that the storm passes and he can drop and roll.
My old stallion loves his box/stall (due to many years prior to his life with me of living in a box), but my mare will only go in if she has the option to go out again. If I try to lock her in she kicks the walls. So she will stay out but the old fella will quickly trot into his box when the rain starts to come. He's a bit of a wolly. He doesn't like being wet, I think because he protests to baths as well, even if its to get rid of sweat after a ride
My mare prefers to be out no matter what the weather, although she's not fussy about being stalled either (I've stalled her on limited occasions). So she is on full time turn out, with access to a large lean to.
