Aussie saddles, looking for user feedback.

Hiya,

I am considering an Australian saddle for my hard to fit horse, and I'd love to hear opinions from people who ride this style.

Thank you in advance!

It seems like people either love them or hate them.

My husband has one for his horse. He has huge high withers and a round wide back and it fits him perfect. I liked riding in it so I got one for my narrow butt high horse, but I ended up selling it cause it placed me to far forward on his long back. I got a synthetic western now that fits him better. How is your horse shaped?

Cool, thank you!

He is a big polish arab with a wide back and high withers. So far the only thing I could find to fit him decently was a wide tree round skirt circle y, but it is way out of my price range. :)

I'd definately try it then. Good luck

I like Australian style saddles. They will put more pounds/sq inch on your horse's back like an English saddle does but offer better security when things go wrong. The biggest drawback is price - a REAL Australian saddle starts around $2000 and goes up fast. I'm using one from Down Under...the basic design is still good, but the leather is about what you would expect from a $750 saddle. I like western saddles, but finding one that fits an Arabian can be tough!

I want't an aussie saddle so bad. There is one at my local tack shop for $650. Wanted to get one for my high withered TB.

I've been riding in mine for well over 20 years-had the heavy (thick) girth leathers replaced last year, so I'm hoping to get a lot more years use out of it. It's the saddle I'm jumping in at the left-I've had it on many different horses of all shapes & sizes. I wouldn't trade it for anything!

bsms, we have the same saddle only mine is in brown tones. The leather on mine is fantastic. I bought it used and it is obvious that it was meticulously cared for. The leather is super soft.

Spooky, I think you should look around. UsedSaddles.com's *NEW* Website This one has a 1 week free trial with it. If it doesn't fit, ship it back.

Wouldn't waste my money again :) had two decent ones... thought if I bought a more expensive I would like it better... I didn't. My first was a Kimberly and the second a Toowoomba didn't like that one any better. Got a great deal on it though and made lots of money when I sold it :)
