What Does he look like?
Here is Jake. Chestnut Paint (Coloring) 15.1 H and roughly 1100 pds. We got him as a QH, which pretty much meant that he's stocky and they had no idea. I'm guessing he is just a backyard bred paint just for some color. But still I love hearing what people guess. He moves well, tracks up very well at a walk and trot. Very animated with his movements, so he dosen't move like a QH. I've been told he moves and acts like an Arab. (Though he as no physical features of one) and he is absolutely fearless.
I've been told : QH, Paint (Duh), Arab, Draft, TWH (Ummm I don't think so, not gaited, will pace) and Warmblood (also an i don't think so)
When he was 14 : (Fat and out of shape)
Now at 20 : (He was grumpy and standing parked out because his feed was in his pen right next to him and I was making him stand still He was wet from a bath and has a winter coat still, thats why he's looking bleh)
Back shot :
Any guesses would be great. xP Yes his head is HUGE.
Stupid Photobucket, I'm working on making that image smaller
I LOVE his back leg markings! So cool :D
As for breed, he looks like a mix to me. I see TB in his face, which could account for his movements, but he is shorter & stockier built so perhaps a QH Paint.
He reminds me of a QHxPaintxStandardbredx? we have in my barn.
Definitely has Paint in him. Not many non-gaited horses pace, so I would bet he either has standardbred blood in him, influencing the pace, or other gaited blood that didn't mix well with the Paint in him. He has such unique markings, though!
Just thinking (since others think he's gaited) perhaps he has Paso Fino in him? On second thought, his head sort of reminds me of a few i've seen...
Pervian Paso with some bits of thoroughbred and Qh?
Well if it's a Paso crossed with a paint, then he would have TB & QH in him as well ;) You can get pinto Paso's though, which could account for his markings
Just looking at him, he looks Paint, but does sound like there may be some other things in there to. I agree about his back leg marking, that is so unique! I love it!
I don't know if pacing is the correct term now that I think about it. I know though that at times if I give him his head and sit deep he will walk until the gait gets smooth and his legs start the movement of moving the sides together as opposed to diagonals. He bobs his head with each step, which is why the one lade thought he might be TWH. I have little experience with gaited horses and am unsure if thats what it is. I wish I had video but I don't. Its only at the walk, otherwise he has normal (but animated) gaits.
To see him move check out my youtube
I see the head is a little of the same for the a Paso. But I don't see any resemblance elsewhere.
I've wanted to do a breed blood test on him but I know that they can inaccurate and expensive. (I once saw a beagle looking dog come back 43% rottie, 30% Chihuahua and the rest labrador or something. I work at a vet office) He is such a puzzle to me. o.0
Thanks for the back leg comments, it sure has made him one in a crowd. I've had several people ask if I've bleached it to look like that. Lol
