Spring Bay Horse Trials!
So this weekend Demi and I ventured to The Kentucky Horse Park and Masterson Station for a weekend filled with eventing!
It was our first full USEA horse trial of the year (we had done a combined test in March). We did what is hopefully our last Beginner Novice before moving up at May Daze Horse Trials at the end of May.
Demi was MUCH more settled in her stall and in the show environment than before. She just settled right in and acted like a champ :-) this was also the first time I had hauled my truck and trailer loaded!
We started off the weekend at KHP doing dressage. We had an awesome warm up and even though we didn't score as well as we usually do, she was super forward and I got amazing rider marks! She was supple and just overall awesome. We scored a 35.7 on the test. I think we should have done better but, hey it's just one judge's opinion!
Then show jumping came about two hours later. She was amazing in warm up. usually we have an awful warm up and good round. The course was turny and very technical but I knew my little pony could do it :D I set her up short on the next to last fence and we dropped that rail but otherwise the round was great.
Today was XC at Masterson Station Park. The course was HUGE. The horses were required to run up two very large hills to max fences and it was going to be a challenge for my little tired mare. But warm up for XC was great and we went in confident. She tackled the course like she's never done before!! She handled the hills like they were nothing. Took the brush fences like a steeplechaser and went down the hills with her butt under her!
I am so proud of my little girl! We ended up 6th out of 16 with a 39.7 as our final score. Pretty green ribbon to add to our growing collection :)
We are moving up to Novice at May Daze as my trainer said "you two were beautiful out there!"
CONGRATS!! That's so exciting, and 6th out of 16 is great! Good luck in Novice, you'll have a blast!
That's amazing! Great job! :-)
Congrats! Glad you two had fun and it sounds like a great end to BN events - bring on the N! :)
You know, pictures are MANDATORY in threads like this ;)
Thanks! once I get the right to some pics I will put some up.
I am going to start Demi on Adequan (or a generic) soon and we are going to a jumper show this weekend to prove to my trainer that we are ready to tackle novice height.
Congratulations Drew! Super proud of ya, and I look forward to hearing more great news! Best of luck for your 2011 season!
I thought you already started Demi on Adequan? Or was that Uma?
nope. I have not used Adequan since Ginisee (my first event horse)
Demi had hock injections earlier in the year.
Oooh that's right! Hock Injections! Dur.
haha well I'm going to try to see if she gets any better with a little supplement of Adequan to go along with the hock injections. She is about 95% better. Totally rhythmic, steady, and more even behind. Especially when jumping. However, when she tracks right on a big circle, it seems she is a little off. My trainer thinks it's a weakness because she does not show it on a small, tight circle nor on a straight line but it is apparent on a 20 meter circle.
When I had Nelson's hocks injected, the vet stressed to keep him on the Adequan. He's doing wonderful with the both together, I bet you'll see even more of an improvement.
Nelson can't do his 20 meter circles well either, going to the left. Due to the arthritus in his hind right hock. I have a difficult time getting him on that right rein as well - so my Coach decided to just allow him to go how he wants to go without pushing it. So we fake it till we make it :) lol. He's not off - but you can tell he doesn't want to get on that rein.
