The Stubben Saddle "Issues"
Here are the photos....

crap. I can't get the "photo" link to work. Tried the embed link and it won't work either... lemme see what's going on ! Might be a bit bc my new laptop just arrived!!! :-)

Dammit. Can't edit the post, so here are the photos....

That is my fleece contour pad, not "stuffing"!!!

It's not nearly as cracked as it looks in this photo!!!! It looks like it was probably dry at one time and then was oiled. It's soft and supple - not hard and cracking like it looks here.

I would definately get it into a saddler to have it checked over, and have it restuffed.

Maybe they'd beable to help you out to ensure that the saddle fits you correctly and your horse as well.

Stubben leather is not as good as it used to be. Every piece of stubben equipment I have looks just like your saddle. Everything I have is cracked like that.

haha - i feel like a dip but i honestly can't even tell what part of the saddle that second picture is of. :(

Chele11 04-13-2011 03:34 PM

LOL Crimson - It's one of the saddle flaps.

lmao - wow i'm a dip. :P i thought that might be it but wasn't sure.

honestly - idk that i've ever seen a saddle that looked like that and was still being used. if it was me, i'd pass. :(

I have a Stubben that looks like that and I use it in my lesson program. The cracks are only through the top layer of the leather. It works just fine. As long as the seat and topside flap leather and stitching are in good shape, I would keep it. You won't find another quality saddle for that price.

Yes, it will need reflocking and the whole underside of the saddle replaced eventually, but it should ride fine for a long time. Just keep it cleaned and conditioned and it won't get any worse.

wasn't there another saddle that was the same size tree wise but a more appropriate seat size for you? do you have pictures of that one? is the leather better?

perhaps this is too forward of me to ask (or maybe you posted it and i missed it) - but what are you spending on this one? i ask because you can most certainly find a quality saddle for a good price especially in this economy. i got my kieffer for $500 (or was it $400? idr) and it's in stellar shape. i wouldn't have paid that kind of money for something that wasn't great.

again - just my $.02
