Do tree sizes fit the same way within a brand?
In the process of looking for a new saddle, I test rode a Stubben Edelwiess with a 32cm tree on my mare, and I really liked the way it fit her. However, I am looking more for an all purpose or maybe even a dressage saddle. (We just do trails, so it's whatever is comfortable...) So for example, if I had two Stubben saddles in hand, a dressage saddle and a close contact jumping saddle, both with 32cm trees, would the tree fit exactly the same way? Sorry for my ignorance! Any help is appreciated! :)
I understand that the gullet channel width may vary and that the billets will hang differently, etc.
edit: I actually think I may have just answered my own question, but still if you have any input, please comment!
If they're about the same age they should fit the same. The older saddles often have trees that "spread" a bit and will fit wider than a newer saddle. Also, the flocking makes a difference.
I have a 32 cm Stubben VSD AP with fresh flocking and a newer tree that fits a LOT more narrow than an OLD 30.5 cm Stubben VSS AP with flocking that I had re-done about 7 years ago. Looking at the tree sizes, it should be the other way around, but the age of or "miles on" the trees and the condition of the flocking makes them fit the way they do.
That's very interesting and very good to know! The saddle I tried was new, but I will probably end up with older used one, so I might want to go with a 31cm instead. thanks! :)
