As you may know I had had some serious issues with Reco which I was unable to cope with myself, which had resulted in hom being sent home in disgrace from the first trainer I sent him to and left me with a suspected broken shoulder (turned out not to be broken but have done some soft tissue damage).
Anyway Last monday I did a horrific 4 and a half hour drive through some of the most horrific roads in wales. I put my lorry in places I never thought it would fit and went up and down some horrific hills (1 in 4 hill being the worst, thats a 25% gradient), had some close calls on some tiny roads and had a couple of idiot drivers try and force me off the road (not a chance, i'm bigger then them and I don't take prisoners when driving my horses round). My shoulder was killing me by the time we got there and it only got worse on the way back
We arrived quite late so it was decided that he wouldnt be worked the first day, however he has been worked most days since then and his rather major issues with longreining have been solved. He is now happily long reining, turning, doing circles, figures of 8 etc. He will now have the line around his back end without a major explosion, infact without any explosion. I'm extremely pleased, it has taken her less then a week!
They will now move on to the saddling issue!
Yes this lady is primarily a NH trainer (of the monty roberts school of thought most deffinatly NOT of the parelli school) however she does produce show jumpers and show horses using some traditional methods too. and Yes I was extremely dubious as my encounters with NH upto now have all been of bad mannered horses pretty much doing as they pleased or of horses that had been nagged into submission. However I am now someone who wont hesitate to reccomend it for problem horses.
Good on you for trying something new, and I'm glad that it's worked well :D
It's a shame the whole Parelli thing has surrounded natural horsemanship with such a stigma, because to be honest the principles of NH are honourable and something we should all aim for! :-P
If that is Reeco in your avatar, he's lush!!
yes thats Reeco in my Avatar, he's my baby but he has his hang ups and quirks.
He moves like a dream and I am hoping that he will be my HOYS horse.
Glad Reeco seems to be moving forward!!! :D
