hey guys so everyone is been telling me different lenght for my stirrups need a little bit of help.
So for dressage I got my lenght good. From there to show-jumping i cant seem to find my right lenght. Idealy do I bring my stirrups 1 or 2 holes up? Then for cross-country it's 3 holes up from your dressage lenght right?
Alot of poeple say I jump with to long stirrups but when I do bring them up they say its to short!! ( I have very long legs )
thanks for the help
My dressage length is six holes longer than my show jump length. And my cross country length is usually one or two holes up from my show jump length, depending on how close the holes are on the stirrup leathers and if I'm in a saddle whose leathers have stretched a bit. I'm also pretty long legged.
I have the same problem. With long legs, the "stirrup bar hitting your ankle bone" doesn't always fit the bill. I'm riding a hole longer than that description and I feel more secure with the longer length. I think the shorter stirrups for XC only comes into play once you're jumper bigger fences, 2'9" or larger. For my current height, I'll stick with the security. I'm doing a XC clinic on Sunday, so I'll be interested to see if she says they're too long.
im really interested to see what everyone thinks! im tall (5'11) and whenever i ask for critique, people always tell me my sitrrups are too long! I always though it looks that way cause my legs are long but i look at some pictures with longer stirrups, at my ankle bone, and you can tell their too long for jumping. but just above my ankle bone and i get a nice knee angle even over the jump
okai thanks im actually going to a clinic in may so ill ask then also. Its so tricky to find your stirup lenght with long legs i find !
well i ride long in the stirups since i do dressage and for jumping im still getting comfy in shorter ones! i just ride in whaterver feels comfy.
haha ya probely a good idea i fanely found my comfy lenght :)
In Dressage my stirrups are 3 from the top and for jumping and cross country I have them wraped once and at the top hole. I have really long legs but I feel really comfy in short stirrups
i am short and i always jump with my stirrup below my ankle bone. i actually only put my stirrups up one hole for jumping and one more for cross country. but i have a close contact saddle so i cant make them really long for dressage.
Ha...I found this.....I thought it was interesting. Scroll down until you get to "stirrup length"

Then here - read the 3rd paragraph:
Postcard: Day 1, 2008 George Morris Horsemastership Clinic
From what I've learnt, is that there should be a 90 degree angle in your leg *knee's*
