The App Gene
I have an Oldenburg/Appaloosa cross mare. She's built like an Oldenburg, but has a app rat tail and coloring. What's the likelihood of her throwing a foal with an app color and/or rat tail if she's bred to a solid colored warmblood? Is the app gene dominate? I'm not going to breed her anytime soon, just curious. Attachment 62750

Well can't see your attachment. What coloring exactly does she have?

Your attachment doesn't work.
The LP (Appaloosa) gene works in mysterious ways. From what I've learned, few spot and snowcap (i think it's those two..) Appys are thought to be homozygous, while other patterns are heterozygous. It's usually a total crapshoot as to what the pattern would be though. I know someone a few months ago posted a picture of a Paint/Appy that belonged to someone they knew. It was intentionally bred to be a loud coloured horse..it was a solid bay, not a spot on it.

oh goodness what a tiny tail on a large horse! she's pretty. how old is she? i'd say if she's around 3-7 that she could be a varnish roan
