Headshaking Syndrome

Sheena shakes her head, like flicks it, and it happens in the spring pretty much until winter. Who else has this problem and do you know of any supplements or anything that will help her?

Has your horse been diagnosed with Equine Head Shaking Syndrome?? If so, my horse was also diagnosed. He was diagnosed less then a year ago towards the end of his "ticks" now he is starting back up and I still have not found anything that works for my horse. I have tried the guardian mask and nose net..and no luck. I was reading a website about how you took one person 10 years to fine a cure or treatment that helped her horse!

No, She has not been diagnosed...but im pretty sure she has it. I was reading that it can happen when horses start to be worked more streonuously, and I have been training for a show for the past few days.

She started today for the first time since last summer. I am so frustrated beacuse we get bad scores in dressage because of it, and I can tell she is really uncomfortable.

She stated last year (She is 18) and we hav had her for 8 years and before then she had never done it. It just seems weird she has never had the syndrome for 17 years and then all of a sudden it comes hot and heavy..

That is very odd she started to have it at the age she is at. What I have read horses tend to develop it between the ages of 8-10. My horse was 8 when he showed symptoms but there are always different cases. Do you know the syymptoms to it??

Well, with her its just random head flicking and her nostrils get really small and look almost like a foal's..

Have you noticed any of these additional symptoms?
-first had the "twitch" which is the vertical and horizontal head toss and it becomes frequent at times to calm
-began to hate his nose being touch (he used to loved being pat him on his nose)
- lips will twitch non stop at times
- has nasal/eye discharge
- likes to hide his head at times such as in a corner of barn, under trees, and even other horses tails.
- will rub his nose on his front foreleg or on other objects
-And he tends to zone a lot and just freeze which he used to not do that

*** Also what breed is you horse?
