My mare was introduced to a bit (and a bridle) about 5 months ago. Training has been slow, but ever since her first time with the bridle on (it was almost too easy) she will suck on anything! I woke up this morning to find that she had her halter off, but did not go any where, she was sucking on the poll band just like it was a bit, and when I took it from her, she started to suck on the rope  So I put a piece of nylon rope on her halter so she could suck on it while I groomed her, she was as happy as ever So what funny quirks do your horses have?
I have a almost 10 month old colt who is extremely mouthy. I can hardly get a halter on him because he tries to put the noseband in his mouth. I have also introduced him to a snaffle and he loves it. Bridling him should be no problem in the future. It's easier to bridle him than to halter him. Keeping things OUT of his mouth has been my biggest problem!
My horse likes to 'help' when you put on the halter or bridle. You hold it up to her face and she uses her lips to try to push the noseband over her nose. Very cute
