i need help with my horse he has....
my horse trigger has bald patches on his neck and sides, he's always rubbing on a fence or tree, our farrier said that it could possibly be lice. maybe call a vet, but im not sure what it is or what to do.

i just told another person to try Shapleys M-T-G. its helps regrow hair and its used to get rid of fungus. I get mine from a TSC store. If possible give him a bath with a anti fungal shampoo first. I dont know any off the top of my head. you could call a feed store and see what they have. or do a google search. if you have any more questions post them. Good luck!

Agreed. I recommend Mane and Tail Pro-tect antifungal shampoo. If this doesn't settle the scratching, call a vet. You could possibly ask over the phone rather then making a house call.

Could be Lice or Mites?

Checking for lice is fairly easy. Use your hand to slowly brush the hair back so you can see his skin. Are there litte white bugs or eggs? Does the hair itself look dull and nasty? If so you can use a lice duster and that shoud take care of it. Otherwise he might need some anti-fungal shampoo as mentioned in the other posts. He could also possible have an allergy to something he's rolling in. Bedding or weeds in the pasture? I personally wouldn't call a vet out at this point. If the bald patches don't go away though, or if they start getting infected, then I would.

I am having the same problem but my colt has them on his chest back and butt. Do you think maybe their new hair is coming in and it just itches. I am going to bath him as soon as it's warme enough. But my colt wasn't taken care of and he has about a inch of dirt and mess on him. But I hope you get it taken care I know it worries you . It does me too. Good luck let me know how he turns out..
