So what do you all do when your horse sun burns their nose (or anywhere really). What product or what do you do?

I use Desitin (for babies) and it stays on for quite a while. I've also used regular spf 50 sunscreen and that's worked well too but wears off much faster since it's not as thick.

My pally mare has pink skin on her nose that always burns horribly. I used to always put Desitin on it, but I found that because it's her nose she rubs it off in about 5 minutes. Plus, she HATES the smell and it's just a pain to put on. I use a fly mask that covers her nose and that does the trick perfectly. If they burn somewhere other than their face though, Desitin would work just fine.

Years ago, we rubbed Noxema on white parts, but these days we use Quic Shade. I think there are a couple other ones, but that's the one I have access to. As far as existing sunburn, I would keep the horse inside during intense sunlight (10-3 in Kansas) until it heals.

For sunburn, Desitin is actually best. It does stay on longer and helps heal the skin while it is on there.
FWIW, Desitin(brand) works just as good as the pharmacy brand at less than half price. I believe it is just zinc.

good ol Zinc Oxide. doesn't matter what brand. just put it on generously. and be careful with oil based flyspray on your horses white parts that have little hair. oils intensify heat. ;) so water based flysprays are best for those parts of the body

There are these new sun shades for horses made by a company called Nag Horse Ranch... A friend got one for her paint and it works great. She even rides in it :)

Once it's burnt, I agree that generic zinc oxide (same as Desitin) works the best.

I like to use Corona. It protects and heals at the same time.

Zinc oxide is what lifeguards around here usually wear it is found in Desitin
