First Novice with Demi!
So I moved into an apartment with no internet so I only get on once in a while now... but I thought I'd update you on Demi's progress!
Our last beginner novice was Spring Bay Horse Trials at the beginning of April. she did fantastic so my trainer and I made the decision to move her up! I've done Novice with my old mare, but Demi had never done it.
We had a decent dressage test (got a 38.3) though I think the judge was a bit unfair to us as my horse was actually in a lovely rhythm and very consistent. Our arena was right next to Nina Bonnie Avenue (the main road at the Kentucky Horse Park) and there was a western show going on as well as other divisions doing showjumping so it was all a bit distracting. Definitely not our best score but we took it!
XC was AMAZING. My horse has never been that excited! we did have a scare at fence three (the cork barrels) she took a good hard look but did not stop. We had two banks on course and a ditch. All of which she took in great stride and we ended up coming in way before optimum (a second after speed fault! haha) which was a shock considering we've never run Novice!
Stadium was even more perfect. Our warmup, which is usually atrocious, was spot perfect and we went into the arena and tore it up! She was jumping great and we left every rail in the cups! We ended our Novice debut on our dressage score and took 8th out of 21 in a very hard field of competitors!
So proud of my little horse! Next stop is Midsouth Pony Club Horse Trials at the end of June and then possibly Champagne Run HT at the horse park!
you can only see thumbnails... but here are pics!
Drew, I *love* her over fences and I love her attitude. Looks like she had a blast!
Thank you, Maura!
I love my little mare. Her form actually improved after we moved up. Guess she figured she needed more of a challenge for those little legs!
We went XC schooling yesterday at the Kentucky Horse Park and she did fabulous. We practiced a faux corner (a table shaped narrower at the end to set you up like you would take a corner) and coops and logs out of water! She was amazing!
Can't wait for photos of your next outing!
