What breed is he?

As far as I am aware, Fred is a fully registered New Forest Pony.
However, everyone who meets him seems to think differently!
I have explained that many horses run on the New Forest, so it is possible for him to not look very 'foresty.'
What do you think?
Sorry if the photos are rubbish!
And I apologise if this thread is in the wrong area :/

NewForestNay 06-07-2011 03:09 PM

Sorry! I shall get on to that straight away.

I cant see the photos either.

Doyou have his papers sying that he is Forest bred? if so then there should be no question about it.

There are several types within the NF breed, just like the connie who has 2 dystinct types (the old fashioned leg at each corner type and the newer sports type), the NF has 3 or 4 types depending on who you talk to.

Ah I see I didn't know that!
No, unfortunately I am having to send off for a duplicate passport due to previous owners.

Honestly the first thing that came to mind when i saw him was in fact New Forest. Can't think of anything else... maybe a larger icelandic

Which society is the passport coming from?
Have you got any side on photos with no tack on (or just a bridle/head collar)

Ah I'm well chuffed, really hoped he wasn't crossed with anything like intentionally.
It is infact coming from the New Forest Society, so that should eradicate any doubt, and personally I had no doubt in his breed, but it was just the sheer amount of comments on the way he looks.

looks like a typical forest bred NF who isnt the best example of his breed but Deffinatly isnt the worst.

I think you will find that people are compairing him to the NF's generaly found in the show ring. These tend to be a bit more stocky (and generaly on the porky side)
This gallery on the NF website shows a good range of types

Thank you, personally I think he's gorgeous and I haven't met a new forest more pleasing to the eye, however I may just be biased.
