beginner jumping excersizes?
hello fellow Horse forumers! :)
So I'd really like to get more into jumping. Especially since I have a show on the 25th of June and there's jumping in it :D
I've only jumped to about a foot before, but I'd like to start doing some patterns and stuff! (not a whole course though. It's only a couple jumps at the show anyways) So um... If you know of some for beginners then could you please let me know? I've tried jumping one and then another one right after that but that's pretty easy. If you're going to tell me measurements (please do say like how far apart the jumps are and stuff) then could you say them in feet, inches, meters or centimeters please? Thanks!!
I don't know how beginner you are exactly, but I love gymnastics, or grids. There are lots of sites that will help you find the distancing depending on your horse's stride.
Grids are great to help you develop your position and get a feel for the horse, without having to worry about the horse so much as you would doing a line or a full course.
I also love canter poles set before jumps, which has done wonders helping me find distances.
Don't enter an over-fences class if you aren't ready. Make sure both you and your horse are confident, or it can easily sour the both of you.
Good luck and be careful.

thanks! I think we'll be okay in the show, it's only like 2 fences in a row and it's under a foot high.
Quick question though: Cheyenne is 14hh and she's old, but she's a really good jumper... Although I've tried jumping her just under a foot high at a trot and she hit the fence-didn't knock it over, but hit it. She doesn't do that at a canter at all. Is it really hard for her because she's a pony? I couldn't imagine that it would be, but would that be it? Maybe it was just an unlucky jump or maybe it was my own fault, but I don't wanna be jumping her like that if she can't do it.
She had been trying to go into a canter and I was holding her back at a trot- do you think she was just trying to be bad or do you think she knew that she couldn't make it? I don't know, just asking :)
oh yeah about your 'me being a beginner' thing, I am a pretty good beginner, I just mean like I'm a beginner to jumping. I showed cheyenne's owner once and she really liked my position and where my hands are placed and stuff, but I'm going to get my mom to take pictures sometime so that I can see what I really look like. :) Just thought I'd let you know on that :) I've only been riding for a few years though, so I can't say that I'm advanced yet :)
do you have a trainer or a friend that could help you with your jumping ? having someone on the ground can be very helpful !
yep, Cheyenne's owner helps me out lots :) I was just looking for some patterns and stuff that I could work with. :)
