Which size body protector??
I'm going to order my first safety vest ever, but I want everyone's input on what size to get because I don't know what to do when your measurements are inbetween two sizes. I'm 5'6" 135 lbs
Here's the sizing chart:
........Chest.....Waist....Waist to Waist Over Shoulder
S .... 36-39"....31-34"...34.5"
BUT my sizes are
35" 29" 33"
My gut tells me to go with the x-small because that's where 2 of my measurements fit but how important is the waist to waist over the shoulder (I'm assuming I can't adjust that)? Is it better to order slightly bigger and tighten the vest or get a fitting size and loosen it if i have to?
Please give me your input/own experiences, thankyou :)
Too long and the tail end of the vest will bump/hit/ride the back and or seat of the saddle and annoy the heck out of you.
Since the measurement is only a smidge off what you want, probably try the xs. If you can, go into the store and have someone look at the vest while it is on you....and wear what you normally would while riding, or you can get a false measurement. Some places will do measurements and recommend the best fit for you.
You'd probably be better trying one on, 'cause if they don't fit properly you might as well not have it. But like the person above said, better going slightly smaller and loosening it because if it's too big it might be too long and catch on the saddle.
Lol we have the exact same measurements. :P I would go with the extra small. I always regret it when I buy a size bigger in clothes because it's always too big, even when there is a way to "shrink it", etc. The best would be to try it on, but since you're ordering it, do you know if you can at least return it?
I'd go with the XS, I'm almost exactly the same size as you!
Thankyou for the replies everyone! I ordered the xs and it's a perfect fit! I had to loosen it a bit to have it zip up but that's okay with me because like you all said if I got a size bigger I could definitely imagine the back end hitting my saddle since that part isn't adjustable. I feel so safe in a vest but I sweat like a pig >< haha
