Is it normal to have such a bad memory!?

Im 13 and I have the worst short term memory.
I dont mean im a cluts like some 13 year olds. I genuinely cannot remember anything! For example a few days ago I lifted to pens to do my homework , set them down to go get my books , came back and POOF gone. I couldnt find them , I totally forgot were I put them. After searching all over I gave up . My mum found them the next day beside the tv :L
When I put the dog in his pen , I forget if I lock it and end up going and checking again. I do the same with the stable door and tack room. Is anyone else this forgetful :S

Oh yes, several times I have to go back and check I've done something because I cannot for the life of me remember if I did it or not because I have two memories, one of doing it and one of note doing it if that makes sense. I will start talking and forget what I'm saying mid sentence. I do get worried about it especially as I'm prone to migraines so I do wonder if it's connected in some way.

I do that too! It would really scare me if I got migraines too. I would get checked if I were you , just to be sure!

I'm definitely that forgetful. Once, I was putting away our sat nav at the same time as getting some potatoes out the porch for my mom. Few hours later, realised I hadn't put the sat nav away. Tried searching for it and found it in the potatoes! :D

You'll learn ways of dealing with it. I have to keep a diary so I know exactly what I'm doing and when. And if I have to do something that's sooner than that, I just have to repeat it in my head over and over until I've done it.

That can be true for me sometimes.

Everyone can say they've had short term memory problems, but if it's actually interfering with your day and occurring more than it should than that's not normal. It could be anything though, from stress / depression to ADHD to lack of vitamins to even a brain tumor. It could also be that you're just getting old... :P

Sounds normalish to me. I misplace my truck keys all the time, cause I forget to hang them up on the key ring at my house :P

Yeah, I'm forgetful. But my mind seems to remember important things, like where the tack room key is, when I'm riding, the names of all the horses I ever rode, riding lessons.

I have more of a long term memory than a short one. I can remember things that happened 1... 2 years ago, and not what I went upstairs for.

Lol.

I do stuff like that all the time. I have taken to saying aloud where I am putting things so I remember better. For instance "I am putting my ipod on my nightstand". I also have keep a large key chain so it's harder for me to lose it(I still lose my keys occasionally though.

If it's more like that I'd check it, just for being sure. I remember back to my 13ish I once picked up a mug and started to wonder "how we call that item?". I had sometimes moments like that but I guess it's because I was and still are a pretty night owl so I often suffered from lack of sleep.

Do you have had some stress? Depression like someone thought above? Lack of sleep?
