6/15 Schooling Show
We did two Low Hunter O/F classes and an U/S.
So I have shown ponies since I was 6, but ever sine last year I've become super nervous and lost all my confidence I have at home. I was hoping going back to a simple schooling show would help me, and it really did. I'll start at where I get her out of the trailer, I guess. I tacked her up and brought her over to the schooling area and got on. Emma started to try and trot real fast into the fence and I instinctively tensed up. I took her into a corner of the area and just trotted in circles, made my circle bigger, included trees, and more space. We finally calmed down and she was putting her head lower and lower. By the time our Over Fences classes started, it was 9 o'clock. I was exhausted. Our first time around, we did pretty good. She went a little quick and did a buck change in one of the corners, but we did pretty good. In our second class, we were Jumpers. We had to have gone around that ring in record time and it didn't help that my gloves had gotten Show Sheen on them :P
Anyway, our flat class, usually our worst class of the day went pretty well. She only sped up too much one time. Oh yeah, and while we were going past the judge's stand, she moved some papers and Emma shied away, but didn't break her gait. So then came the Lineup. Oh joy. The worst part.
Miss E stood still. She did it. I was talking to her and scratching her withers and she just stood there, Of course, by the time the announcer started calling names, Emma was ticked off, so I let her do some circles but for the most part, Emma stood still.
We got 6th in our flat class, no ribbons for our OF classes but that's okay. I don't think we've ever placed higher in a flat class than an Over Fences class, so it was a big accomplishment.
Oh, and there were 22 horses in that class, 1 was for sale for 75k.
Sounds like you were able to turn a shakey start into a productive day. That's the one good thing about a horse that has a little extra nervous energy. If you can turn it into productive energy, great things can happen.
Sounds like you managed really well, great job. Do you have pics?
Haha no. By the time my classes started the photographer went home, and my mom's poor phone couldn't manage the darkness. So nope, no pics.
And thank you, I've owned her 1 and a half years now, this is only my 6th show with her. When I first got her, she was an eventer. She just used her speed to get over fences and it worked for her. It's been hard to turn her into a Hunter, but we're almost there.
