Help! Helmet issue
Not sure where to post this exactly, but I have a slight issue. Lately my helmet has been causing me a lot of discomfort when I ride. About 20-30 minutes into my ride, I begin to feel soreness on my forehead and it just escalates into a major headache the longer I ride. Its even gotten to the point where the skin on my forehead is beginning to rub off :-(. I have a charles owen gr8 and an IRH (not sure about the model, the one with the black vent) and both do the same thing. I had them both professionally fit when I bought them and they were very comfy until I had a few rides in them. In both cases the next size up was way too large and I have tried on every helmet on the market and these were the only two that I could even get over my head. I was thinking of cutting out the padding in the front where it sits on my forehead and replacing it with a strip of memory foam or something that will mold. Anyone have any ideas for me?
I think your idea sounds good. I have only heard good things about Charles Owens helmet.
I used to use Troxels, mainly because they are inexpensive. But I found that for my head shape, elongated, the Tipperary fits better. Troxels seem better for more round shapes.
Did you try the Tipperary? Mine is so comfortable I forget it is on. And my head it big!
Tiny I havent tried tipperary but I will. My head is just very oddly shaped and EVERYTHING puts pressure on my forehead. Its getting to the point of ruining my rides and going without a helmet just isnt an option for me. Thanks for the suggestion! :)
Is your helmet slipping back over your head/forehead as you ride? That could be causing it to create more pressure.
I've experienced the pain, though as well, and it is not cool. It usually happens to me when I show western and have to use someone else's hat and its not a perfect fit, and man, within five minutes, I've got an extreme headache. lol.
Your idea sounds good. Some helmets, like mine--an IRH--includes removable and additional padding strips that you can use to help the helmet shape to your head.
Are you wearing your hair the same way when you ride now, compared to when you had it fit?

I have an IRH Medalist, it is built for people with longer heads as opposed to oval and I have yet to get a headache as I did with some of the other helmets.
Tipperary is also supposed to be good.
Gemini - nope, not moving at all, stays in place well, but just creates that pressure point.
Velvets - yes, hair is in the same style
Emily - thanks! I will look into the medalist.
I hope I find a solution soon, I really don't want to be the first one out there with a custom molded helmet lol

Unfortunately I can't suggest anything to fix the problem (sounds like they are too tight though, I have a bad headache as long as helmet is a bit too tight). But if you gonna look for a different one try those you can adjust on your head (Troxel, and may be other brands too I just don't know about). For whatever reason I do change the adjustment in winter vs Spring - Fall period.
I had the same problem. i bought padding a couple of times but it wore off and the helmet started to hurt again. so i just bought a new helmet. its not the best option but its sertainly the easiest one. i havent had trouble from my new helmet though
my new helmet is dublin. its so comfy and very strong, i think dublin is the way to go when buying helmets
