tack storage

What do you guys use for storing your tack? Over the years I've had various Rubbermaid-type tubs, but I'd like to get something nicer. At first I was thinking of a wooden trunk, but after seeing the prices online for those I just about had a heart attack. Besides, that would be quite heavy (super-duper heavy with my stuff in it!) and I don't know how one would hold up in the tack room since it's not at all climate-controlled and is open to bugs and pests. I've been looking at molded plastic trunks online, and this one is a nice big size at a reasonable price (about $165 with shipping):

Tack Trunk w/Wheel Assembly Jolly Pet (Equine - Stable Equipment Supplies - Tack Box)

What do you guys think of that one? It has no reviews there on Valley Vet's site, but what looks to be the same trunk on Amazon was rated 5-stars by both people who reviewed it.

Stanley Consumer Storage 037025H 50 Gallon Mobile Chest

I have had this stanley trunk for years now, it rolls, has a key lock, and it is sealed very nicely. I have two horse blanket, all my tack and i have even had to fit a saddle in there once ! It is very durable, I got mine at lowes/home depot!

Ooh, that looks good and it's definitely cheaper! Do you happen to know the dimensions? If not, that's OK, I might be able to find them online somewhere...

I have the tack trunk you linked in blue (ordered it from Amazon). Absolutely love it, there is a leak in the barn roof right on top of my trunk and nothing in the trunk as ever gotten wet. My trainer and I each have one, we put one on each side of the main crossties so when the vet, farrier or whomever is there, we have good benches to sit on.

You can jam amazing amounts of crap in it, I have a half dozen saddle pads, 2-3 half pads, couple sets of boots, multiple girths, spare halters, spare bridles, bareback pad, couple sets of polo wraps, 3 riding helmets, half dozen pairs of riding gloves, first aid kit, couple bags of t-post caps and who knows what else and there is still room to spare.

I don't put my grooming supplies in it, tried that but they either became lost in the giant area or didn't fit in the small tray that is included. I have a separate tote with a stepstool that fits over it for my grooming supplies.

It claims you can put a saddle in it but I wouldn't do that. There isn't sufficient room to store a saddle suitably IMO.

It was a synthetic childrens saddle, the little girl was very worried about rain getting on it so we threw it in there to run it out to the trailer (and to make her stop complaining), other than that I agree not enough room.

I do however fit a ton of things in there!

its about 4x2-3 ft. and 2 or more feet tall. (such a rough guess) its outside!

I looked it up online, the dimensions are 37" x 23" x 23". I guess I'll have to go look at it in person to gauge the size compared to the totes I have now. Right now I have three Rubbermaid-type tubs and I'd like to consolidate at least two of them... my seldom-used things like spare breakaway crowns and my plastic wash bucket can stay in a separate box if necessary.

A friend on another forum has this trunk from TSC:

King Kong Mobile All-Purpose Job Box - 1840110 | Tractor Supply Company

I think I'm going to end up going to some home improvement stores and TSC to "eyeball" some boxes in person. It's annoying that the pictures online do not show good shots of the interiors.

I'm not a fan of tack trucks, especially since my barn recently banned tack trucks and I was forced to look for other solutions.

The barn I'm at now recently banned trunks since they take up so much room and were all only allowed the space below our saddle rack, length, width & depth.

We've all switched to rubbermade plastic drawers, and they are so much better then trucks. Before i'd loose the stuff when I rummaged around. The drawers are so much better. I especially like the tall drawers from the container store since they're slim and tall I can stand up fly spray & showsheen bottles: The Container Store > Mobile Slim Tower

Plus they're see thru so I can find everything easily.
