Critique Possible buy, pics and a story
Ok so you guys know I am leasing a horse for the next three months, His name is Mclovin (mac) He is a 5 year old 15.3 TB. He is a jumper. Well I thought this horse and I had a spark and we do but I went to look at a horse as a favor with a friend she wanted me to try him as well just for my opinion and she really wasn't feeling him but I just had to fall for this big guy. I really like him a lot. I like the way he jumps and the way he feels when I ride him. So I have my lease for three months after that I don't have him anymore. So I'm wondering what you guys think of this new guy.
His add says.
Mr. Mitch 1996 warmblood gelding 17.hh
Mitch is extremely quite and easy, he can take a rider from beginner to advanced divisions. Mitch is a jack of all trades and can be used in the hunter, jumper, and equitation rings. He is even great in ‘fun’ classes like egg and spoon, relay races, and costume classes.
In the last four years, Mitch has won state championships, multiple ribbons, and championships and reserves at horse shows throughout the country in Children’s Hunters, Children’s Jumpers, Large Junior Hunters, medal classes, and Hunter Derbies.
He has a flat jump (not much of a bascule) so he might not be the best horse in the hunter ring, though some judges will not mind because of his tidy front end.
Watching the video I am trying to figure out if his animated tail is attitude or what. His ears are up the whole time but his tail keeps going. Part of me wonders if it is an issue having to do with discomfort, but then I look and see his ears up so maybe it is just his way of saying he is having fun.
Do you have any real conformation shots?
I saw that too and wondered about it, It confused me because his ears are up and forward. My nana who is an old trainer told me she has seen a lot of horse's who are very very trained do it when they are concentrating. I don't have any yet these are just from his sale add and the one I took after I got off of him it was really hot. I'm going out to try him again with my mom on Saturday so I can take some then. Is it ok to ask to take confo picture while i'm there? I don't have much experience in trying horses. His price is very negotiable, so what would you pay for him? Ok i'm done writing an essay.
I see nothing wrong with you asking if you can take a few photos of him to 'show your trainer'.
Ok thank you, I wasn't sure. I will have my mom take pictures and video when i'm there.
I am not a jumper, so I don't see with those eyes. He seems to have a lot of heart and seems to like what he is doing. But I think I see some trouble with him in the pelvis. ON the landing , when he needs to tuck under himself, that seems to trouble him and a couple of other times he seemed trouble with flying lead changes. However, I like his overall look and he seems like a horse with heart!
Maybe I am not doing my math right, but I do not think a horse born in 1996 is only 5.
I agree with what Always said in regards to critique though. It also looked like he swapped a few times on his own accord, which would be bad in the hunter ring.
