Just be willing to spend more time oiling your saddle then you do now. A well taken care of saddle shouldn't dry out, as long as it isn't left alone for a long time.

Could you get a tack box and keep it outside? would that be anybetter or same situation since it would still be in the sun? are tack boxes water proof? does any one know??

A good oiling with Neatsfoot oil will keep your tack conditioned. You only need to do this when it is feeling dry. Don't oil the billets. You should only have to do this once every size months or less depending on the condition of your tack.
Depending on where you are located, you may have to worry more about the tack becoming moldy when sitting in a trailer tack room for a long time. If this happens, rub the tack with ammonia to dry it out, then oil it up.
Hope this helps!
