How many of you have had experiences that you are embarrassed to tell other horse people? like... for instance, beauty is crippled because i left a pile of siding in a bad spot... that's stupidity? I'm just curious if I'm the only dummy....
like the time i left the front door open when i went in to get an apple (i was sixteen) and Pistol followed me in.... I would have got away with it had my dad not realized there were dirty hoofprints on the carpet.......... no one got hurt that time though.....
Re: How many...
I have done so many stupid things in my life!!!!!!! I KNOW God is having a good laugh at me sometimes!!!!
Never had a horse IN the house tho!
I have a hard time talking to our horse friends around her about alot of things. Natural horsemanship for one. They all kind of look at us like "what?" "you have to be kidding me?- You play "games" with your horses?" that kind of thing.
I couldn't even get one friend of mine to understand a natural hoof trim. I would explain it and he would say.. "then you put shoes on, right?" ug... I would say no and he would be all confused again and kept trying to tell me you couldn't ride without shoes.
I just invited them out and said us high tech-rednecks will teach you guys a thing or two before this is all done!
I've had lots :)
But one that comes to mind is when I was working at a big Arab training barn...it was like my first week there - I had put a polo wrap on this horse's leg...tried to make it perfect - no wrinkles, no saggy spots - -trying to make everything look just perfect for the slightly egotistical trainer.
Well, I presented the horse to him - and he proclaims at the top of his lungs to everyone there "WHO IN THE HE** PUT THOSE POLO WRAPS ON!?!?! THAT'S THE WORST JOB I HAVE EVER SEEN! WHAT AN IDIOT!"
Little did i realize i had put the wraps on in the wrong direction...Whoops. Talk about embarrassed :)
LOL! Yeah...I'll have to think of some!
that's awful! after you tried so hard! What a meanie head! Want to know a secret? I just learned the proper way to use a polo wrap about a year ago............i didnt know it mattered which direction. A vet showed me...
Arggg one of the most moronic moments for me was when i was saddleing up Boo.
He used to be grazed at my cousins. There was a post with couple rails to tie them up to, and running along one side was a single wire to keep them away from the surrounding trees. Boo was tied closest to the wire, i was on the opposite side and i put the saddle on, the girth was already attached, so i just pulled it up to me and did one buckle, noticed Banjo had gone tence, then he completly freaked , i got out of the way but my cousins horse who was tied next to him , nearly got caught in the cross fire.
I was stupid enough to have gotten the girth over the single wire and done it up. So the wire was effectively tied to Boo
He calmed down/froze after realising he was tied up and had gotten to the end of his lead rope( and ended up on the other side of my cousins poor confused horse), but only after ripping almost the whole wire from the fence, even the bits that hold the wire to the fence were good and bent/ broken
I very quickly undone the girth, which ended up with a hearty rip in it, but not all the way through.
Man i felt like such a dork. Lucky Boo forgave me tho
My stupid human tricks are usually memory related. I have left the water running in the stock tank on more than one occasion. Nice to see a river running across the pasture the next day after its run all night. I have left the door to the barn/feed room open so the horses can help themselves to feed, hay, supplements etc. Sassafras ate a container of mare and foal supplement when she was pregnant with Shiloh. She also ate half a container of feed-on fly stuff once. I'm just amazed no one has ever foundered.
The day I left the front door of our old house open and ended up finding one of my mares and her foal in the main hallway of our house!
Dad was not pleased!
