Devastating news :(
Us Aussie dressage lovers are in shock today after finding out that one of our most promising and talented riders has lost their top Olympic prospect in a freak road accident in Germany yesterday.
Hayley Beresford's lusitano stallion, Relampago Do Retiro, has competed with Hayley in the lost Olympic Games, World Equestrian Games and numerous other major competitions. 'Reli' has recently returned to work after an injury and was returning from his regular check ups yesterday morning, when a car pulled out in front of the trainer. The trailer driver was forced to swerve and the trailer tipped over. Reli was euthanised at the scene.

Vale Relampago Do Rotiro. Australia will miss you dearly, my thoughts go out to Hayley.
How awful. My love goes out to those affected by the loss of such a lovely horse.

Just heartbreaking! My thoughts are with those who are affected. Not fair. =(
That is so tragic! I don't know much about the horse/rider but I feel for them.
Devastating indeed :/
How utterly heartbreaking. I feel angry at the driver of the car, but I don't know the circumstances.
Oh, how horrible. I can't even imagine .
OMG, that is horrible! My heart just sinks for those involved who loved that horse. :( Poor boy.
how awefull!! that poor boy :( my thoughts are with everyone affected by that accident!! so sorry to hear
I feel so awful for Hayley, Reli has been her top GP horse for years, she got him all the way over to Kentucky for the WEG last year and he pulled up sore in his test, so she had to fly him all the way home again without competing. He's only just coming back into work because of that injury, and now this. It's just awful, and he was a real big player for the Aussie Olympic Dressage Team, he'll definitely be sorely missed. And to top it off, Hayley's cancer has come back. The poor girl just does not get a break!
Feel terrible for the girl driving the trailer with Reli on board, not her fault at all, but I'd like to wring the neck of the idiot that pulled out in front of them. Happens here all the time, people don't want to get stuck behind a horse float so pull out in front of you so you have to hit the breaks. Might not be the same situation, but it still infuriates me!!
