MAJOR breakthrough!!

SO, for a year and a half now we've had Flicka. She was horridly mistreated when we got her, so far underweight we feared she would die, and we worked for months just to get her to the point of decent health.
THEN, Sarah started to ride her, did really well, at that point we were on lead line and Flicka was good. Well, then Flicka got to feeling really good, and her greeny weenie self appeared, ok, no biggie, she's a rescue, needs work. Well, Sarah became afraid of her and stopped riding her, and I took on the monumental task of training her and calming her (she is just turning five now).
Fast forward, less than a year ago Red came to live with us from Denise (who is a member here). Red is an awesome boy, and Sarah took on the task of retraining him to dressage. By the way, through all of this Sarah took lessons weekly on a schooling horse, so she's always had a trainer at her back. So Red now goes to lessons with her, and they are showing and coming along nicely . Red has given her INSANE confidences, she's started jumping, cantering, and doing awesome work.
SO...this week I was riding Flicka, who is now an awesome girl, we're over working on attitude and on to working on leg cues and discipline related things. She gets off of Red and says, lemme ride Flicka now, and did AWESOME!! First time in a year she's been on her, and she's finally got the confidence to ride her!! I cried I was so happy. Flicka was given to her by my mother, so I WANT her to do well with her. She's ridden her and Red every day now when she does her daily rides, and I couldn't be prouder!
Sorry for the book, here's a photo as a cookie for making it through!
(By the way, I have to say I"m proud of myself for what I have turned Flicka into, she's an awesome sassy ride, but sane and dependable!!)
So..one of she and Sarah and one of me and Sarah. By the way, I can't say how happy I am to be riding, as two years ago I was 300 lbs and unable to ride!!

Well, I think she's a lovely horse :) And well done for turning a nervous greenie into a horse that your daughter feels she can ride, that's not an easy task!

I felt a big choke rising in my throat as I read this. Those 'moments' for me at least is why I spend so much money owning a horse, those moments make it worth it - those are the moments we seek the rest of the time.

I am pleased for you!
