Peeing funny??
So my gelding I guess for a few days has been peeing as of course he should, but it is killing the grass where he pees and he always has his sheath hanging half way out? Does anyone know what this might mean??? I don't want to call a vet unless it is absolutely necessary as we just had one out last Monday to put down one of our older horses and that bill is high...but if I have to I have to... Also I just cleaned his sheath about 4 days ago, and he was doing it before that too.

If it's killing the grass, that suggest high levels of ammonia which is a result of eating too much protein. Is his diet high in protein?

He is on grass 24/7. Which until May 7th he was just on dirt with hay 2X daily.

As Puck stated, the ammonia content could be high in his urine which is why it's killing the grass.

As for him hanging his wanker out all the time, that's a boy thing and nothing over which to be worried. My two Arabian geldings do it, and now they're starting to corrupt the TB, who didn't use to leave his out and waving around. :?

Ditto Puck on the high ammonia/protein levels.

I wouldn't however dismiss his dangling if this is new or unusual to him and just started. Was the dangling out also happening before the sheath cleaning, or just after?

Indy, she stated he was doing it before the cleaning too, so I'm going to presume it's just something he does.

He didn't start "dangling" until about a month ago...and I re-cleaned his sheath today and got the "bean" out and he was much better. I am also going to be taking him off black-oil sunflower seeds because he doesn't need the added protein he is getting from them. I will be re-checking his behavior over the next few days to see if any major changes occur, such as him not "dangling" anymore and not killing the grass. Thanks for all of your help guys!
