Wow moment today - had to share
I've been having lessons with a fantastic instructor on a school horse who is the most amazing animal I've ever sat on and been doing things I didn't think I was capable of. My last lesson left me feeling like a kind of octopus with my legs hands and seat having to do things akin to tapping my head and rubbing my stomach! My friend and I decided to go for these lessons to help us with her horse which she bought a couple of years ago. My friend hasn't been riding long so is building her confidence and skills. I, as the alleged experienced rider, am in charge of schooling Dorrie and I am so grateful for this as my mare is 23 and past dressage. I went with her to see the horse and she was in a poor state at the time but there was just something about her we couldn't quite put our finger on but we felt it was special. We got her home and realised that her sire was Broadstone Westside (dressage stallion) so that explained some of it, 2 years on and she looks like a different animal but the schooling has been average. Any way I'm prattling on a little, my wow moment today came when I decided (after my last lesson) that I really wasn't trying hard enough with my riding and so I committed to pushing myself....wow. After about 20 minutes of warm up the little mare went into overdrive! Now I understand what working with the hocks underneath you means, I felt like I was floating and the power on the trot was breathtaking. The whole experience has left me desperate to experience it again it was the most amazing thing I have ever felt. I know alot of people are used to this but I'm beside myself on two counts, one that I somehow managed to get her to do this and two that the little mare is this talented, she was such a poor thing when my friend first got her and I'm so proud of her.
Very indulgent post I know, so thankyou for reading, also a quick 'before and after shot' of the day my friend got her and a few weeks ago just before we took her to her first show.
Beautiful animal! Addicting feeling those "wow" moments huh? Enjoy, it's good for you. Lots of worse things things we could be addicted to.
If it wasn't for the sock I would argue that it wasn't the same horse! she looks amazing. I LOVE those WOW moments, any tips on getting my mare to really use her back end like that, she does it better for other people then me
I loved your post, hardly indulgent. There's plenty of space here.
Wish I could feel such a moment.
the mare is a doll!
WOW!!! thats a different horse!!!!!! she looks AMAZING! and those wow moments are what keeps us all SO addicted to dressage... theyre also what make us all so crazy;)
I'll show Dorrie's mum your comments, she will be so pleased. She adores her and takes care of her so well, she's pampered daily and wants for nothing. When we took her to the show we only did in hand just to see how she was and she won all 3 classes! The best one was the last class when my friend took her in (her first show too) as it was the veteran, the judge couldn't believe she was 17!
What a stunning horse, and your wrong many people do not experience that feeling. I hope you treasure that forever. :D
I had one of those moments not to long ago actually, I caught it on camera; it was not me riding, but just being in the aura of my horse and the sun going down, it was really a magical day.
Crappy phone quality.
Wow she looks incredible! Nice work! And congrats on your moment!
Waresbear, totally agree that addictive is the best way to describe those moments.
Gotta love wow moments. Now you just have to remember what you did to get it to happen in the first place!
