What trainer do you use or like best? I'm trying to choose between Lynn Palm or Pat Parelli I have heard of Clinton Anderson but haven't heard very much about him, and I haven't researched him.
I like John Lyons for a lot of things, I have his Lyons on Horses book but I would like to get Pat Parelli's home study level 1, however I would like y'alls opinion.
I don't follow any of those NH people. Uggh. I think they rope people into purchasing equipment and DVD's -that is so outrageous!
You spend more time learning their games and how to use the equipment instead of just going out there and using common sense when working with your horse.
I guess they work for some people though. We had a couple ladies where I board that bought over $500 worth of carrot sticks and other 'we have to have them to train our horses' equipment. The rest of us just had to shake our heads.
One of the barn trainers hates getting NH horses in - spends so much time retraining the horse AND rider! Total nightmare.
JMO though. 8)
hmmm, i have the same problem, idk which person to go with, but i chose other because technically i use my local trainer at the moment and nothing else.......
I use Parelli. I only had lessons (on horseback, never any ground work lessons) and when i got my horse, i wanted to start on the right foot.
I find that Parelli is easy to understand and i feel that my horse and I have a better connection/relationship because of it. I did not try any other methods because i tried Parelli first and since it's working, i'm sticking with it.
Even though they do push their products and they are expensive, I feel that are worth every penny, and i feel they help you to communicate better with the horse because of how they are designed. Though everyone has their own opinions :)
I know Parelli has a free DVD you can get off his website. I would also suggest seeing if the others have free DVDs. Also check out your library to see if they have any videos by them too.
There are some things I like about each of the trainers and then there are some things I hate about each of them. I take info from all of them.
And I'm sorry I can't remember your username whoever suggested that I get free DVDs I am going to look into that, so thank you!
I have kind of gotten my fingertips wet with NH, seeing as I have joined-up before, and the sensation of having a successful join-up session was overwhelming I must say. So thank you everyone!
Parelli is very good. ;) I like the 7 games.
I use a local guy who goes to QH shows and whatnot. He does me a world of good.
i think it depends on what you want to do, too.
i'm not into NH, but it's my perception that Parelli is more of a bond building - make you feel good guy, while C. Anderson is more of a let's ride [the horse] and make it work...
just my thoughts :)
Personally (I'm not trying to rile anyone up here) I think the money is better spent on person-to-person lessons with a certified trainer in your discipline. That way you can get feedback on your riding or training, rather than try and guess if you're doing it right.
