Just getting out my crazies....

So I've been talking to this guy since February (I got my current job around the same time we started talking, so its easy to remember haha) and I like him. I mean, I don't know if I'd marry him but he'd certainly be nice to be married to. Army reserves, going to school to become a science teacher (everyone say AWWWWW), we have some of the same ideals, some not (for example he's kind of conservative and I'm liberal, he hates dogs) but I mean, we've been conversing for six months and he hasn't started ignoring me yet, so....

Anyway, the big gap here is that he lives in Oklahoma, and I in Florida. In a few weeks for my birthday I am going to be taking the trip up there to physically meet him for the first time, and some days I'm excited, some days I think I'm the most ******ed woman on the planet. FOR ALL OF YOU SAFETY NUTS, I have spoken to him on the phone, on webcam, I have his facebook....the face matches the name and details and all of that fun stuff so I at least know he is who he claims to be in the legal sense. So I really have no reason to be nervous, again, from a legal standpoint. Its only for a weekend, I will be getting there mid-day Thursday and leaving sometime in the early evening on Sunday. So, as I've told him plenty of times, if its that awkward I just have to wait it out a few days and then I can never talk to him again :D

Random musings are welcome and accepted, I know all of you parents out there will be dying to chime in so....have at it!

Oh and just so we're clear, I'm turning 21 so I am a big girl, or at least I think so haha.

I really think it's cool. I have friends who are awesome partners for each other as a married couple and met on the Internet. Just make sure you know he could be different than online and go for it!!

Chime. Chime.
If my mom knew half the stuff I did as a teen and young adult, OMG!
But anyway, you have the brains to take care of yourself, so no real chiming here.

well it is your life so it is all up to you

just be prepared before you get too invested to think about the future it is never to early to start! if this is not someone you can picture your self marrying then stop right now but also with a long distance relationship know it is not easy and think about it...if you do end up getting to the point of living together who is welling to pick up and go? that is a big thing

I would be! haha he actually lives in horse country; hay is cheaper, feed is cheaper, there's grass and plenty of nice barns to choose from.

Well the nice thing would be that you're willing to move and he would be able to (being in the reserves he can go anywhere and still have his job). Facebook has made life easier to meet people and get to know them from a longer distance since generally everyone has current friends, old friends, and family on their fb who will jump in and ask WTF if they are acting out of the "norm". Good luck and keep us updated!

You know the funny part is my dad knows about him. My DAD. But I can't tell my mom because she would assume I'm going up there to get pregnant or something, which I'm not. She has a long history of being critical and overreacting so she just believes I'm visiting a friend elsewhere.

I just have to comment you know you're a horse person when you judge potential places to live based on the welfare of your horse first like I just did lol.

WOW he sounds like a keeper! :)

Good luck! :)

My first boyfriend and I had a long distance relationship as well. He lived in Wyoming while I live in Illinois. We went almost a year without seeing each other! It definitely has a lot of hard moments but if you guys really like each other and have good communication skills, you can make it work.

I'm sure all will go well meeting him but just in case things don't turn out the way you thought they would, make a backup plan! :)
