Help with a diet plan.

Okay so I know I posted a thread in Horse Health about my overweight 16 year old mare a while back, but I wanted to make a new one to help me come up with a diet plan for her.

Now that I have a job, I will be able to pay for special supplements and feeds that she will need.

Here are the most recent pictures I have of her:

Because things have been so hectic lately, as well as extremely hot. In the upper 90's and it's been extremely humid, I haven't been out to work her. She's now got a grass belly, which I definitely plan to get out and begin her work out schedule once again as soon as it cools down a bit.

Right now she doesn't get anything but grass and pasture mix hay that we grow and bale ourselves.

She's a 16 year old Mustang/Arabian/Fresian/Welsh Cob cross. I normally just use her for trail rides and the occasional barrels.

Could you guys please help me to put together a good, solid diet plan for her? I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm going through the same heat wave here in Ontario, it's crazy! I also have a super obese mare who I swear gains weight from just breathing...

I'd have a grazing muzzle on her, soak her hay (weigh before you soak, 2% of her body weight in forage daily), and try her on a ration balancer with low NSC's.

I've recently heard some good things about Progressive Nutrition, maybe take a look at this? ProAdvantage Adult Supplement

GRazing muzzles = amazing. Horse doesnt have to be locked up. They dont get food restriction which actually cause them to store more fat. They can nibble small amounts of forage continously which promotes good gut health. They can stilll drink andlick salt licks as well. this is what i use & it works wonders!
