Getting My Confidence Back?
May I ask what caused your spooked/bucked/reared etc.? I haven't fallen off a horse in years and now that I'm middle-aged, I hope it stays that way. But we all know anything can happen...

I can relate to getting confidence back as I'd been away from horses for nearly 12 years, and purchased a new horse several months ago. I'm working on my confidence, big time, as so may things have changed in the last 10+ plus years, and I'm that much older! I found myself a good coach and I've started off small i.e. lessons in an enclosed area to build up my trust/confidence with a new horse, and taking it very, very slowly.

I'm now at the point where I can ride around a large field at a walk, jog, lope but it's taken me several months to get to this point, and riding 3 -4 times per week. There are times when I still do get a little nervous and when I get to that point, I stop, take a few deep breaths and chill for 5 min. I find this really helps me and my horse, as the moment I start to get tense, things start to fall apart.

Hope this helps, but it would be good to know what caused your falls.

Do you think this is the last time you will ever fall off? Do you think you can insure that you will never fall off again?

As you know, you cannot. Will that stop you from riding? Probably not.
YOu just go on. Like all of us becuase we love riding. So, you just don't deny that you got scared. It's normal to be scared when falling off, and normal to worry about it happening again. But you just go on. YOu just ride a little bit more each time, and you just push back out a little bit more each time and the fear gets less and you are back having fun again.

editted to add : I fall off regularly and I am 53 and it scares me EVERY time!

No guarantees. Lots of fun.

I have found riding in a saddle I feel secure in, in a closed environment like an arena has helped build my confidence after a fall. After a month I am getting to where I can ride in an open field again. Also riding a fairly chill bombproof horse has helped me relax.
