I just saw a zebra in a paddock down the street! I live in Canada, so they're definitely not native to my area :) He was turned out with what looked to be some yearlings (horses). And I don't know if this is the right section to be posting in, but it got me to thinking, what kinds of equines have HF folks worked with or ridden?
I spent a couple of summers working at a donkey sanctuary (hey, homeless donkeys need a place, too!). We had donkeys, mules, hinnys, and a few horses, about 50 equines in all. I did ride one of the smallish mules a few times; he was green but it was much like riding a large pony... except that he was a very independent thinker. Not sure if that's because he was a mule, or if it was just his personality! I loved the donkeys, they were like crosses between a horse and a dog, very affectionate and friendly.
What kinds of horse types have you known, and what do you think of them? And has anyone ever ridden a zebra? It's kind of a secret fantasy of mine...

My life long dream is to ride a Zebra Dressage! :D. Everyone makes fun of me for it but they are just too cute! I'm hoping once I get the money I'll be able to buy a Zebra just to havee. I've seen many videos of Zebra's being trained and the training time takes about 4years. A year just to get the not to kick you! That's all I really know!(:

haha well I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in my insanity, lol. I heard that someone trained a zebra as a polo pony in South Africa, but when they brought him on the field the other horses were too freaked out to go near him, so they banned him from playing! poor zebra, not fair to him :)
