Changing colour?
I was just wondering if anybody knows why my 5 year old connemara changes colour so frequently?
I got him in january, as a trace-clipped DAPPLED DUN, and his clipped patches a grey colour. A few months later, he turned completely and utterly white, his clipped parts were dark dun. I brushed all the white hairs out after many hours of brushing, and he was like a dappled grey with hints of dun. Then he went really white again, but the hairs were not for coming out that time. I went on holiday for 2 weeks, returned on thursday there, and he's a dark grey with hints of dun again! I despair! hahaa :P

First question, what color were his parents?

Sounds to me like he grayed out. A horse can be born one color and change MANY times by 5 years old. Dun is his base color and will come threw, but he's probably now a gray.

No idea what colour his parents are, I will try and find out though!
I like the colour he is now and hopefully he won't grey out too much, custard is a silly name for a grey!

Sounds grey to me... if he is already nearly white at some points of the year at 5 years, he will likely end up totally grey (ie, white).

Pictures would be nice though :)

I have a large amount of photos of his various colours on my horse profile I think!:)

I uploaded some more there if that helps :)

For those photos, looks like he's going grey. Especially with the tail. He'll continue to get light until he turns all white.

I would say that he is grey already...

as I said, he IS kind of a steel grey atm, with dun hints and tinges :)

Yup, he'll always have the tinge of color coming out (mostly in summer months) but he'll be solid whiteish by the time he's mature. He's beautiful.
