Working Cow horse
Sooo...I have been recomended to try working cow horse(reined cow horse) with Champ. He's become a handy little reining horse, very cowy. "Buffaloey" because hes only been worlked on buffalo haha. It's an event that interests me. He is 11 is that to old to start?
A show called reinin in the sun is held in town here every august long weeked, with working cow horse classes. I would like to enter next year. Is that do-able if I get lessons 4 times a month with a pro? Is that pushing it? I know its hard to judge if it is but I would like to know how long you trained until you showed.
I don't see any reason not to shoot for it. So long as there are no age restrictions on that particular show, then 11 is definitely not too old to get started. Whether a year with 4 lessons a month will be enough will depend entirely on how well both you and he take to it. That amount of time might be plenty or it might not be enough, there's no way to tell. I would go ahead and go for the lessons and then just see if you feel ready when it comes time for the show next year.
I am aiming for October to start the training. It will keep me busy over the winter.
