I hae a question regarding english riding pants and why we still buy them

So, i know "jeggings" where kind of popular for a little bit when i was still in school. My question is, why aren't people with less money using these in place of riding pants? if you have tall boots or chaps you HARDLY need knee patch breeches.

Are other people using jeggings with tall boots or chaps?
Has anyone thought of this before?
i cant imagine them being uncomfortable.

Yeah I have a pair that I use with my top boots. I barely use them because they are a little bit slippery.

Perhaps because breeches are required for competition.

I can't afford britches with patches, so I bought two pairs of $5 "denim" type leggings from Walmart and am adding knee patches to them. I'll be wearing them with half chaps. This is an option for me because I sew. If you don't sew, I'm sure you could find a seamstress to add the patches for you.

When we start competing (and I'm at a more "desirable" and stable weight), I'll buy a few pairs of britches, but for right now, being overweight and only doing trail riding, spending $70+ on a pair of britches just isn't practical.

I am overweight too, but somehow, I just prefer to wear riding pants to ride. I either wear breeches with half chaps, or a kind of full seat riding jean with cowboy boots. I kind of like the extra stick of full seat, and I like looking "cool" when I walk around in them. I know . . .

I wasn't how I look in them that prevented me from buying breeches, tiny. Heaven knows I can walk around in skinny jeans and still feel comfortable. It's the fact that "plus size" breeches are not only hard to find, but even more expensive than regular ones! lol

Oh my , arent they? I have this pair of riding pants that I love! They are made by a company in Idaho, made in the USof A and they are very comfy and very durable. Company name is Smoothstride. They no longer do the pigskin ones like I have but they use some sort of fake leather now; better to wash. The pant is called the Trail rider extreme, or somthing like that. LOVE them ! I wear them day in and day out and they are holding up beautifully. I think they are like 120$ but last forever!!!!!

I'm content with my $5 Walmart specials with my own added patches for now. lol Anything but riding in jeans. I swear I was made to ride English...can't stand the way jeans bunch and make you all sweaty and gross.
