Forward Seat

Hello :) I'm a western rider, but on another site, a couple english riders where giving me a riding Critique and said I had a very nice "forward seat". And that I should try english out. Well... what is a forward seat!!!??
Is it good or bad.. or what?

Its nothing bad! I ride forward as well. It just means that you sit further up in the saddle and where your legs fall. Versus in western you sit more relaxed and further down in the saddle. English riding is more forward.

Hopefully that made sense

If that's you in the avatar, that's a forward seat. It really is good. Your shoulders are centered over your hips which are centered over your feet. It's a balanced but secure position where the rider is slightly out of the tack freeing up the horse's back to haul butt!

Yuppers, that is me in the picture. Thank you very much. In fact, I do ride in a position very similar to that picture all the time... unless I have to sit deep for various reasons... hehhe

I wish I could ride English, but don't have a horse that would fit an english saddle well - they're all beasty QH's.

First of all, in a forward seat you can not have your shoulders over your hips as they are well in front of your hips, but you can have your shoulders balanced overy your knees. You might have a line from shouder through hip to heel, but it will not be a vertical line but rather angled forward.

There is no reason at all you could not find an English saddle to fit a QH. There are just scads of QH 's being ridden english!
