will my draft cross get much taller?
Hi all! I just purchased a Draft Cross that is just turning three. He stands 15.3/16h. I'm wondering if he will get any taller? He still has the whole big head/knees/feet thing going on. Also can I expect him to fill out a lot? He is fairly narrow through the shoulders right now, still sporting the "baby" look. This is my first experience with a draft cross so I have lots to learn! :D

He most def. will get bigger and fill out. He is still young. I'd give him until he's about 6 maybe 8 at tops! What breed?

Awesome! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he will hit 16.2. As for his breed- The woman that I bought him from said he was Percheron/TB, but she didn't really act like she knew for sure. It was one of those "Um...well..." things. Here's a picture if it helps: http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a.../Jumble005.jpg
He's standing slightly downhill so his booty isn't really THAT much higher from his withers, but you can really see his big head and knees. I'm 5'7" so you can see how big he is!

I'm at a farm that breeds Perch/TB crosses and they tend to grow until 6-7. The three-year olds are still gangly babies! Your guy is pretty cute. (:

Agree with everyone else, he will grow for a few more years yet. I'm another draft cross owner, mine is a TB/Belgian. I bought my boy when he was 9 so done growing by then, but he is for sure more thick than your guy. I bet yours ends up being taller than Peanut though!

He's a beauty. Being half draft, I wouldn't count on him topping out height wise until he's at least 5 (though mine is barely 2 and I'm praying he doesn't get any taller ). My full perch is still creeping upwards just a bit at a time and he's 6 this year. Then he'll likely continue to bulk up and get broader until he's 8 or so. You can do the string test on him and at least get an idea of what to expect. It may not be perfectly accurate but it should get you within a couple or 3 inches.
