Warming up on trail...
There is a very nice trail to canter or gallop on, but the trail to get there is not proper to trot.
Should I warm up (walking, trotting) at home and then go (it's a bit more than 30minutes walking to come to that trail)?
Or will horse be ok with 30mins walking and no trotting before cantering?
If you can get your horse to extend their walk that is a great stretch.
30 minutes at walk should be just fine. You can, as said above, make that walk count more by lengthening and shortening the stride or make it come through into the bridle. That works the horse out quite a bit.
I never warm up the horses prior to a ride, just toss the saddle on them and head for the trail. I do keep them at a walk until their gates smooth out (10-15 minute range usually) before booting them up.
Thanks for advices. I'll work like that.
There are also 2 pretty steep hills on the way, so she gets worked up there too :P
I was just worried that she won't be warmed up enough if we don't trot before cantering.
Is there a reason you can't trot where you usually canter? Just askin.. ;) I see no problem but you know your horse..
