Ideas for strange jumps?
So I have a show coming up that is notorious for pulling out the crazy jumps =] It's a hunter/equitation show. So besides the classic cooler over a jump, what are your ways to, ahem, "decorate" a jump? I can't do too much because it's a boarding barn.

Cones, colorful flowers, hay, GARBAGE BAGS, branches, odd objects... really just think ! :) Just put this stuff all over/under your fences, and there ya go! Spooky stuff!!

Jump different types of obstacles too: oxers, Swedish oxers, triple bar, verticals, exes, combination fences (bounces, one strides, two strides). Really anything you or your horse haven't jumped!

Curious, what types of jumps does this show usually have?

If you list them maybe it will give you ideas for things to try at home.

Just colorful or oddly shaped jumps They have this one jump that the wings are butterflies and the whole thing is bright and big and obnoxious...also there's sometimes a skinny jump, but my barn doesn't have one. Our jump are very plain. Boxes, brown or white poles, gates, etc.

Try draping colourful saddle pads, jackets, or blankets over verticles or attatching plastic bags to standards. If you have any flower boxes put them under a jump, if not you can use just about anything (brush boxes, colourful blankets, etc.). You can lean bright umbrellas up against the sides of the jump, not open though because they could roll away and spook your horse. Anything bright and vivid and out-of-the-ordinary for your horse is good.

It's been ages since I've ridden a jumper but have a couple ideas.

Bright indoor/outdoor carpet makes a good cover. Over barrels, it makes a great roll top, just use extra poles at each side of the barrels and tuck the carpet under. Old fake christmas tree parts in brush boxes with the lights. Bright colored streamers, bags, pool noodles, balloons, etc added to your standards. Sheet of plywood to make a brick wall, I made myself one as a teen and then my friends & I did grafiti on it after I'd painted the brick.

If ur allowed to try to make a chess jump but if ur not, I would try the flowers and stick them in like one of those picket fences.

Cool ideas everyone! I can't do too many of these -- boarding barn -- but I like the balloons one. Sasha will not be a fan of that one haha! And the colorful saddle pads, the coolers, and I think I'll make her jump over a hay bale. I sometimes make her jump over jump boxes just 2 without a standard. I like these ideas guys!

You can easily simulate a skinny jump if you have an extra set of standards. Set up your vertical as usual, and then add an empty set of standards inside of the ones holding the poles. That will make the jump with normal sized poles appear skinnier. Like this (please excuse my poor artistic ability.) Just make sure you jump it with the extra standards toward you, so if the poles need to fall, they can. And make sure there are no jump cups on the inner standards to get hung up on.

Oh wow, I would have never thought of that! Thank you very much! I might want to pick a time when no lessons are going on to try some of these haha...I doubt that the beginner pony that is 90% honest would go over some of these things with a tiny little kid on him haha! =)
