Finding the right bit?
I am trying to figure out what bits I should use to show. I ride my new gelding only in like basic loose ring snaffles. Nothing fancy. He doesn't even really need a bit. But I am wondering what western bit I should use for showing western pleasure, trail, horsemanship, etc.. and what bit I should use in english pleasure, hunt seat equitation, pattern classes etc..? Any advice?? Thanks to everyone who comments! :D
What bit you use will depend on a few factors. For example, if your gelding is a Quarter horse, and he is over 5 years old, he must be shown in a curb bit for Western events. If you are showing at approved breed or association shows, I would look up the rules for bits in those particular disiplines to help you pick out a bit.
If your horse does really well in a simple snaffle, there isn't any need to put him into a harsh bit. I'll post a few good threads about bits on here in another post.
For English type bits:
For western type bits:
Thanks I will check it out! :D
