Steer Wrestlers and Snaffle Bits??
Can anyone tell me why so many steer wrestlers use snaffle bits? I was at a rodeo a few weeks ago and I noticed all of them were using snaffles, and if they went into a different event they would put a curb on them... is it maybe because you can pull back on their mouths more with a curb, causing it to stop faster?? I have no idea, someone please tell me :)
Steer wrestling horses don't really do much but put you in place and run, so why do you need anything different from a snaffle? These horses were probably seasoned, so really, the guys don't have to do much but hold the horse in the box for a bit. So why put more of a bit in a horse that doesnt need it?
Why does anyone use any particular bit on their horse?
You use what works for the horse, their training level, what you are asking them to do, and the rider experience.
So the steer wrestler uses a snaffle on his horse because that's what works. Simple as that!!! Others may use something else.
