BO's what would you suggest? (Boarding Contract)
So in looking for a place to board my horse, I have come accross a private place that is willing to take my horse in. Details have not been worked out, but what would you all suggest as far as what details to put on paper to protect myself in case of any troubles? The stuff I have to work with so far is that I will be working in exchange for work on the farm, they will only have one other horse there as mine will be its companion, and the BO has a teenage daughter who owns the other horse.
I am a little wary, but I have a back up plan so no worries there :) If this doesn't work out then I will move to a further away stable. The only reason I do not want to go there is because thats where my last horse died, of NO FAULT at ALL of the owners (she's wonderful :-) ), but for personal reasons its hard to go back there. I would if this doesn't work out, because I know my horse would be taken care of, but I would have a hard time with it.
Anywho, I am meeting with the man multiple times before I make a decision, and we will work out the terms. I was just wondering has anyone else on here dealt with this kind of situation? What should I be wary of and what should I do to help legally protect myself and my horse?
Thanks in advance!!
If you are working off board - get the exact details in writing. How many hours or particular jobs per day/week/month. What happens in the event you can't get out when you are scheduled.
Do they have insurance or need a CUP to have your horse on their property?
I've never been in a situation like this so all I can say is make sure you have a thorough contract, don't leave anything out that way if something ever did happen while you're boarding there, nothing can come back on you and you can't be blamed for anything.
It's kind of like selling a horse, you wouldn't sell a horse without a Bill of Sale would you? Just in case anything happened.
I know I wouldn't but just make sure you get all the details on the contract and you're 100% comfortable with your horse being there.
Good luck with everything!
