Old Trainer
So when I started out riding at age 13 I started with an event trainer. I loved riding with her, loved her lessons, and she helped me find my first horse who I still have and who has still proven to be a great mount.

I boarded at her barn for about a year but a bunch of people ended up having a fallout with her concerning the amount of hay and grain their horses were not receiving. My horse was losing quite a bit of weight so we decided to leave her boarding facility with a bunch of others and have not spoken since.

I still have so much respect for her as a rider and a trainer especially when I see how successful both her and her students are doing in the event world.

It's been about 8 years since I've spoken to her but I've been tossing the idea around of calling her up and doing lessons with her now. She is a great trainer and didn't use the cookie cutter method of training which I've grown accustomed to know. She actually dealt with each horse and rider differently to achieve results. I'm happy now because my horses live at home so I can feed them what and when I want and she lives near enough where I could trailer in for lessons. I'm willing to let bygones be bygones if she is, but besides it being a little awkward at first, do you think she would be offended after all this time if I call her up and ask about training with her again.

It couldn't hurt to ask. As long as all you inquire about is lessons and leave the feeding and management of the horse to you and your barn, you should be okay.

Agreed. Give her a call and see what she says. I don't think she would be offended, but I don't know her. I can't imagine that anyone would berate you for giving a phone call to arrange for business, even if you did leave her years ago.

I figured. I'll call her and see what happens. This is completely out of my comfort zone so the next question I ask is should I bring up the past? Should I say "hey it's me so and so I used to ride with you when I was younger" or u think she'll know who it is when I say my name? So strange but it's worth a shot especially if it equals good training for me and my 2 boys
