strawberry roan keeping colour
I have a strawberry roan pony and in the sun he goes a chestnutty colour and i prefer the roan any suggestions on keeping it that way thanks :) x
well, i've seen people (mostly Friesan owners) go ballistic at the slightest color change, so i suppose you could not keep your horse outdoors or invest in some blankets. However, i'm a firm believer in letting a horse be a horse and don't really think you should stuff a horse in a dingy stall or over-blanket it just for the sake of color. These two options are in case of sun-bleaching, you might also try some dietary stuff but i have no experience with that, so you'd have to ask someone else =P If the cause of the color change is the sun the easiest way to fix it is to get the horse's coat out of the sun, but it's up to you and the horse to decide.
Light fly sheet if your weather temps permit, and some paprika in the feed.
Keep all sweat and mud washed off, as that attracts sun and aids in bleaching.
Thanks for the help! I will try the paprika x

If he's a true roan, he'll eventually roan out completely. There's nothing you can do to prevent that.
