Editing Video's...How do you do it?

Hopefully, this is in the right place....

I have a few videos from todays horse show that I would like to edit, but have no idea how to. Would someone be willing to help me out?

I would just put them to YouTube, but for the warmup rounds, I want to just edit it to jumps, with a freeze frame over top of the jump (if possible). Just to the jump would be fine as well.

Then for the actual rounds, I would like to add music to it.

Since I have never done this before, I am not even sure if there is a certain program I need, or even if it would be available on this computer, but would be able to download/get whatever was needed.

The movies come off the camera in QuickTime Movie format, if that helps at all....

Do you use Windows or a Mac? If you use Windows, download the free version of Windows Live Movie Maker:

Windows Live Movie Maker 2011

I've started using it to edit videos of me riding, but I don't think it can freeze frame or slow the video down. Definitely take a look at the "How to use Movie Maker" section on that page as there is a bit of a learning curve. Still learning myself but compared to some of the other movie editing programs, it seems to be the easiest to use.

Just note that if you have slow internet, it's going to take a very long time to upload to YouTube... I have super fast internet, and it still takes almost an hour to upload a 10 minute HD video! :(

With WLMM, you can slow the video down, not sure about freeze framing... I'm still getting used to it myself.

Macs use iMovie, I believe... I have no experience there, I'm afraid.

Here's a print screen of WLMM, with a clip in there. The thicker circle is where you want to click to edit the speed.
The thinner circle is the drop button where you can choose the speed. You can either speed it wayyy up or slow it down a bit. Hope that helps.

I have windows.

I do have Windows Movie Maker, but because the movies come off my camera in Quick Time Movie form, they do not work well in WMM. The audio runs normally, but the picture lags/skips.

So I downloaded a converter thing, and now they run fine, but the trim tool only seems to work for one start and end point, not multiple. So you need to 'trim' the video several times, then put them together?

To cut clips up - use the split button .

Alrightie. I will try it, and see what happens.

Sooo...I am not sure where the videos I converted went, so have to locate them first! Arghhhhhh.

Ok found them, but as soon as I go in to try and trim parts, the video goes back to skipping. :(

I might just leave them as they are!

I could do it for you if you wanted, just upload them on YouTube, I'll get them, then you can take them off... Then once I've done it I'll post it for you...

But only if you want :)

Thanks for the offer Love, I really appreciate it. I'll just suck it up, and leave them as they are.

I've also videos with a software called VirtualDub. You can find it on the web free if you want to try still one more time.
